Bayero University Kano Non-academic staff join nationwide protests

The Bayero University Kano chapter of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU,  and the Non Academic Staff Union, NASU,  joined Tuesday’s nationwide protest over perceived inconsistencies in payment using Integrated Personnel Payment System, IPPIS.

The unions are also demanding payment of earned allowance and arrears on minimum wage for their members.

SSANU chairman Dr. Haruna Aliyu and his NASU counterpart Abdullahi Aminu in an address said the unions are also protesting the usurpation of headship of non-teaching units in the universities by academic staff which according to them violates condition of service.

The two unions are also protesting the non-payment of retirement benefits of their members and also signed a memorandum of understanding with their employers on the contentious issues in October 2020 but it appears little progress  has been made on the matter since then.
