By-Election:Candidates Of Lagos East Senate And House Of Assembly By-Election Signs Peace Accord With INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commissioner (INEC) says it is set to conduct a by-election in Lagos East Senatorial District and Kosofe II House of Assembly constituency following the death of the representatives.

The Commission gave the assurance at a stakeholders meeting to reel out plans for the bye election where Peace Accord was signed by candidates of various political parties in the election to ensure free and fair poll.

The elections became necessary in view of the passing away of the representatives, Senator Bayo Oshinowo and Tunde Buraimoh, at different times this year.

Addressing the Stakeholders at the meeting, the State Residential Electoral Commissioner, Sam Olumekun, stated that the meeting become necessary to enable the Commission review preparations for the election.

He emphasised that the bye-election would be conducted in strict compliance with COVlD-19 protocols adding that the elections would not be an avenue to spread Corona Virus in the State. 

He said that the Commission is committed to conduct a free and fair election in accordance with their vision and mission, while pleading for total support to fight malpractices as violence, vote buying, ballot snatching and the likes in the forthcoming by-elections. 

Mr. Sam Olumekun tasked stakeholders on the need to encourage eligible Nigerians to come out en masse to vote the candidate of their choice to avert voter apathy experience in the last bye election in the state.

Contributing, the head of ICT and Operation of INEC, Mr. Yussuf revealed that the Commission would be using the latest technology known as Z-Pad in the bye election 

He noted that Z-Pad was used in recent elections conducted in Edo and Ondo State, to address some of the intractable challenges to collate, transmit and declare results of elections more accurately and speedily, resulting in better outcome. 

In a message to the occasion, the Lagos State Commissioner for Police, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu assured residents of adequate security of lives during and after Bye-election.

Odumosu who was represented by his deputy said that there would be restriction of people and vehicular movement in the Lagos East to prevent acts capable of causing the outbreak of law and order.

Other stakeholders at the event are various political parties representative and their candidates, Waheed Ishola of National Orientation Agency, Members of Inter Party Advisory Council.
