The Federal Capital Territory Administration has issued fresh guidelines ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration in Abuja, the nation’s capital that allows the observance of prayers at Eid grounds for the first time in over one year.

FCT Minister Muhammad Bello announced the measures after a meeting with members of the FCT Emergency Operations Committee.

The Committee agreed that all Eid prayers in the FCT are to be held in open spaces including mosques and National Eid Ground with total compliance with the Covid-19 safety protocols.

The capacity of Eid grounds are however expected to be reduced by 50 percent to enforce social distancing while imams are advised to ensure that their sermons are short.

The Committee however agreed that all recreational parks and facilities should remain closed throughout the festive period.

Worshippers are encouraged to observe all non-pharmaceutical preventive measures especially social distancing, regular hand washing and the use of face masks in public places.
