The Nigerian government has established the National Council of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs to steer robust working relations among the three tiers of government and other relevant bodies.

The minister of special duties and inter-governmental affairs, George Akume, told a conference in Abuja on Tuesday that the local government administration in Nigeria’s federal system of government ought to be contributing meaningfully to national development.

This consultative conference which has in attendance major actors on special duties and intergovernmental affairs is aimed at fashioning out ways to strengthen the local government administrations in Nigeria.

The facilitator of the conference, the Federal Ministry of special duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, says it is seeking ways to harness the potential of the local governments for effective service delivery and sustainable national development in Nigeria’s’ federal system.

The various speakers insist on the devolution of power to ensure healthy work relations among the Three tiers of government.

The theme of the conference is; “harnessing grassroots potentials for service delivery and sustainable national development: the proper place of local government administration and inter-governmental Relations.”
