At least 4 inmates in the Jos Custodial Centre in Plateau State, North-Central Nigeria on Thursday escaped from the facility.
ait.live gathered, that the escapees were amongst the 5 herdsmen arraigned before the Barkin Ladi Court sometimes last year but were able to escape after some armed herdsmen stormed the premises and overpowered the correctional warders to free them. The 4 of them were however re-arrested after intensive search by security personnel.
When contacted through telephone, spokesperson of Plateau State Command of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Geoffrey Longdien, comfirmed that there was an incident but declined further comments and said investigation is ongoing and the Command will soon address the media on the matter.
However, a source who pleaded anonymity said the 4 inmates escaped with the alleged active connivance of an insider.
