NATCOM Receives Royal Seal of Approval: Ooni of Ife Leads the Charge




The council of traditional rulers has thrown their weight behind the full operation of National Commission for the Co-ordination and Control of the Proliferation of Small Arms, Ammunitions and Light Weapons (NATCOM), emphasizing the need to key into the mandate of the commission anchored on flushing out illegal arms.

The co-chair of Nigeria’s council of traditional rulers who also doubles as the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi gave this backing while receiving the acting Director General of the commission, Otunba Adejare Rewane Adegbenro in his palace.

Ooni commended the Adegbenro’s effort towards making Nigeria a safe haven, while giving the commission his full support.

“The truth is we need to connect and inter-connect more with the grassroots. Thanks to you (Otunba Adejare Adegbenro) for associating with us. Call us, anytime, anyday. We are ready to support all the way. On behalf of the council of traditional rulers in which I’m the co-chair, my self and Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Saad Abubakar. We work closely together to better the lots of country. I can assure you. You are on the right path. We like your passion, keep it up”

The acting Director General had earlier called for effective collaboration between security agencies and traditional institution while enlisting the support of the traditional institution for NATCOM.

“Today I have come to see kabiesi to solicit his support and make sure that every aspect of NATCOM comes to fruition. We just have to  make sure NATCOM works for Nigeria and we bring this proliferation of illegal arm to the barest minimum. We must ensure that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s administration succeed irrespective of the cartel. I’m not afraid. I’m ready for anybody”

NATCOM, which was passed into law by the 9th assembly,  has initiated training programs for new recruits across the nation
