PDP Berates Ogun Government On Death of Pupils.

The Ogun State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is worried about the unfortunate death of two female pupils of Saint James African Church Primary School, Idi- Ape, Abeokuta on Wednesday Nov. 18th, 2020 after taking deworming drugs administered on school-age children by a medical team from the state government.

Our party is particularly sad about the levity with which the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) government is handling the general issue of governance and particularly issues bordering on health and medical services of the people which has resulted in the death of innocent pupils while several others are still being treated in various medical facilities across the state capital.

As a responsible party that has a long standing tradition of identifying with plight of the people, we are compelled to hold that the ruling APC government, from all indications, did not follow necessary medical protocols in dispensing de-worming drugs to pupils.

This readily confirms the disgusting penchant for continuous trial and error tactics which has become the trademark of the government. The government has always demonstrated this repeatedly on execution of its insensitive policies since it came on board in May 2019.

As a concerned stakeholder, we wonder how any right thinking public health expert give deworming drugs to pupils with diarrhea, cholera and even malaria. It is despicable, it is the height of irresponsibility of government to say the least.

Furthermore, the most disturbing dimension to this grave disservice to the people of Ogun State is the official response which showed total dismissal of the ugly incidence as if the children that died from cholera deserve to contract such health hazard under the watchful eyes of a government which claims to have spent billions of Naira on health and medical services in the last 15months of administration.

While we commiserate with the families of the late pupils on the avoidable loss of their wards, we make bold to encourage members of the public to hold the ruling government responsible for the death of the pupils. As an organization, the PDP will continue to hold the government accountable for its actions and inactions for the ultimate benefits of the people.

Lastly, we wish to state it very clearly that the avoidable death of two innocent pupils at this time is big enough for any sensible government to own up to its tradition of woeful failures and gets serious with the business of governance.
